The practice of "nail specialty" means providing services for a fee or any consideration or exchange to cut, shape or to enhance the appearance of the nails of the hands or feet. Nail specialty includes the application and removal of sculptured or artificial nails.

A 250- hour curriculum approved by the New York State Education Department.

Tuition is $950. Experienced nail technicians wishing to obtain a Nail Specialty License will pay less on pro-rata basis after evaluation.

The curriculum includes:
Orientation --- 4 hours

1. Safety and Health --- 8 hours
2. Anatomy and Physiology of the Nail, Hand, Arm, Foot and Leg --- 14 hours
3. Bacteria & Infectious Diseases, Nail, Foot, Skin Disorders & Diseases --- 14 hours
4. Methods of Infection Control --- 12 hours
5. Client Consultation --- 4 hours
6. Manicuring and Hand/Arm Massage --- 26 hours
7. Pedicuring --- 20 hours
8. Tip Application and Design --- 14 hours
9. Nail Wraps --- 30 hours
10. Liquid and Powder Nail Extensions --- 57 hours
11. Gel Nails --- 21 hours
12. Nail Art --- 6 hours
13. Business Practices --- 14 hours
14. Job Skills --- 6 hours
